My Wedding Proposal

Hi,

Ladies out there, after reading this blog, you will definitely be blown away and envy by my precious moments.

Guys, if you prepared a speech for your proposal, no matter how many rehearsals you had, on the actual moment for the speech, you would be spellbound and speechless.

Surprise 1: Fixing up the past and preparing for the good times to come
Day 1, 16/07/2008

(Night before the flight to Melbourne)

I surprised Sarah by giving her the repaired “Gold ring” that we purchased years ago in Malaysia. Her gold ring was snipped a couple of years ago due to tightness of the ring.

Day 1, 16/07/2008

Surprise 1 was followed by Card 1 which read;

Dearest Sarah Chin,

Get ready for the most exciting trip of your life. Please follow these instructions and enjoy.

Wake up at 8am and hop onto Virgin Domestic Flight DJ540 at 1030am.

My First Roses Peep

Day 2, 17/07/2008

(Morning before the flight to Melbourne)
The next morning, I had to check the condition of my roses before we left for the trip (without her realising). Hugged and said good bye to our Ariel and off we went to Melbourne.

Surprise 3: The gloves

I got 2 pairs of gloves out from my bag pack which made her realised that we are indeed going to a place colder than what she expected.

3^rd card given to her in Victoria Hotel. The idea behind the 3^rd card: “You are the one whom I have been craving for every moment and I want to be the one that you crave for every moment of your life.”

The 3^rd card reads;

Dearest Sarah Chin,

Now that you are in the hotel room, what lunch (food) do you crave the most? Let’s go eat it!

Sarah wanted to have Max Brenner but I emphasis on the word Lunch. Therefore, without much choice, she finally chose “Yong Tao Foo”.

4^th card given to her in Yong Tao Foo store. The idea behind the 4^th card: “I want to bring sweetness, joy and laughter to your life just like the sweetness in Max Brenner chocolate.”

Surprise 2: Treasure hunt 5^th card with " " (space)

Day 2, 17/07/2008

(Afternoon, Max Brenner)
5^th card given to her in Max Brenner. The idea behind the 5^th card: “Kit 1 brings deep memories to us both. It is the exact clothes that we worn to Mt Buller in 2002. Back then, we were together for approximately 2 weeks. It was our 1^st trip together, our 1^st snow mountain trip. ” “The hot water – In unsettling times, I want to bring warm to your heart every moment just like the hot water from the flask.”

The 5^th card reads;

Dearest Sarah Chin,

Now that I have fulfilled my desires, the rest of the day is for you to shop.

PS: You will have to reach 260 Swanston St at 530am! You will get to rest later. (Wear Kit 1 and Boil water)

Kit 1 was shown to her in Victoria hotel.

The hot water was supposed to be filled into the thermo flask that I flew over with. Unfortunately, it shattered in the checked-in luggage. Luckily, “hot water” was replaced with “hot chocolate”.

I had been praying for the event to run smoothly. Anticipated all possible scenarios to happen and actions acted upon… … til I fell asleep.

Day 3, 18/07/2008

(Morning, Swanston St)
Woke up at 0445am. Hop onto the coach to Mt Buller then did I realise that I have to give her card 6^th before getting into the coach.

*Something almost went wrong here. I realised that I had forgotten my coach tickets minutes before the coach departed. I ran back to the hotel to get it. Luckily, we are still on time.*

Nothing is special with the 6^th card. Just wish to get some rest. In the coach, I had rehearsed my speech for more than 10 times. I also prayed for good weather.

The 6^th card reads;

Dearest Sarah Chin,

Now that you have reached 260 Swanton St, we will wait for the coach and hop on. Have some rest in the coach.

Surprise 2: Treasure hunt 7^th card with "O”

Day 3, 18/07/2008

(Morning, Mount Buller)

The card was to get ourselves ready for the big event that followed. I have to orientate myself in Mt Buller and I was sourcing for the best spot for all to take place. I did not realise that the weather could be this… … cold… … (When we were there in 2002, it was warmer than we expected) In the café, I bought Sarah the 1^st cup of hot chocolate.

The 7^th card reads;

Dearest Sarah Chin,

Now that you have reached Mount Buller, we will have to go find some breakfast and eat. After you ate, go to the Summit. Receive your next card when you reach destination.

PS: If snow too heavily, location will change

It was snowing beautifully after our pancake breakfast. No more good weather. It’s my first time experiencing snowing. How wonderful.

I purchased the Chair lift tickets from our coach tour guide. He told us that we are not able to reach the Summit unless we skid. Without much option, I had to change the location of the event. From the available chair lift routes, we planned a path that fully utilised all chairlift rides.

In the end, we landed up renting snow boots and getting a beanie for her.

After we told the Blue Bullet chair lift, I handed her the next card.

The 8^th card reads;

Dearest Sarah Chin,

Now that you have reached the Summit or otherwise, you will have to build a Huge Happy Snow Man together.

Receive your next card when you finished building the Happy Snow Man.

We found a perfect spot to establish our snow man. The building process was tedious, freezing and snowing.

Eventually, a small Snow man was able to form but i pushed Sarah for a taller Snow man.

After the actual satisfied Happy Snow man had been built, I went into Arlberg to get a cup of Hot Chocolate.

Day 3, 18/07/2008

(Morning, Mount Buller)

Next, I handed Sarah this cup of Hot Chocolate and card number 9.

Card 9 read;

Dearest Sarah Chin,

Pass all your cards to MFG, turn around and close your eyes til instructed to open.

Next, I got Sarah to turn around back facing the Snow man and collected all the cards. Then I unpacked my Proposal items (ring, rose pedals, cards and roses) and placed them into the position i wanted. Here came the moment!

Holding the roses with both arms, going down on one kneel, flashing back of my rehearsal verses, facing Sarah's back, my jittering voice uttered nothing but broken sentences. In the end, i patched my words with vivid memories from the events over the last 2 day.


In Mandarin, I proposed;
Sarah,
You can open your eyes but don't turn around yet.

You are the one whom I have been craving for every moment and I want to be the one that you crave for every moment of your life. Just like how you crave for the food.
I want to bring sweetness, joy and laughter to your life just like the sweetness in Max Brenner chocolate.
In unsettling times, I want to bring warm to your heart every moment, just like the hot chocolate.
I want to be the one who you can share your burden with. No matter how heavy your burdens are, i will always carry it with you even if it is til the top of Mt Buller. That's why i wanted to choose Mt Buller. (One of the highest places around)
(Followed by a short pause.) You can now turn around.
Will you married me?

I was not focusing on her expression but I heard a "YES" from her. This is the first photo of her when she said yes.

Then i realised that she did not wear the ring. I asked her stupidly why didn't she wear it. And eventually, I put it on for her. Here is the first picture of her with the ring.

we are now happily ever after.
